You lower a element and put meaty tires on it and have it built most will know something is up the second they hear it. I agree with the forester since they can look pretty good with just a mild drop which just makes them look like a wagon and then build the engine and turbo. Black out the front mount and make sure the exhaust is quite and the blow off valve isn't very noticable and you will surprise alot of people. Another option is turbo your S but leave it nearly stock with some grippy tires and a quite exhaust.
Another option is the BMW or an AMG wagon. I also remember reading about some 80's celica that had an olds v8 swapped into it. Again the problem there is your little japanese eco car sounds like a v8 muscle car and really isn't going to fool many people.

I saw a 60's VW Bug with a V8 in it. Still had the tiny little factory tail pipes. It was fairly quiet but it would move.
There are also several Ford Focus V8 RWD conversions running around also. I wouldn't mind having one of those.
