KTM X-Bow
I just picked up the new Evo issue, the X-Bow looks amazing.
What are your thoughts on this type of car as being used off track and on the street?
What about that quality of car magazines now-a-days?
I think the idea of this car for use on the street is a crock. Anything less than the S2K I don't feel safe in. Any price more than a (used) S2K is too much to risk with the 'tards on the road. The styling is cool but tiring, and don't even mention keeping it clean. And noise you have to live with is totally not my style - which includes the helmet. Although, that's not much different than a motorcycle, which I don't find too absurd. The "street" media showing is just to help sales.
I also noticed that magazine publications are getting pretty lame. "The thrill of driving" happens to be what I'm interested in, and no other magazine writes about that anymore. Have I missed something? Car and Driver got me going as a kid and convinced me to get a WRX; and Top Gear reminded me to research getting an S. I need more entertainment material now. I even bought another mag just because it was produced with the Evo staff in hopes of good photography and good writing. I just can't get into Grassroots either - maybe if they provided coupons so I can afford getting into trackdays.

Well, since I ride a m/c often enough I'd consider the X-Bow much safer than that for the street. I can't safely drift my m/c. Not even a little bit. And even as small as the X-Bow is, I'm sure it gets more attention from other drivers than bikes do.
So I guess you'd say it is a matter of perspective. Oh, and vehicle mags suck today. I subscribe to Motorcycle Consumer News mostly because they accept no ad money and it shows. I used to subscribe to GRM but I'm not racing lately so I let it lapse.

meh. a bit too odd for me. or maybe it just lacks the flair--trying to be cool, but not hitting the right buttons for me. for the money, i'd rather go with a used F3/FF/whatever open-wheel track car for toying around and have a more tolerable DD.

Looks pretty cool...KTM doesn't build the best bikes so I would definitely be cautious when purchasing their first crack at a car.
That's a really uneducated statement. I bought my first KTM in '06, and now all 3 of my motorcycles are KTM's. I've also owned Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Ducati, Aprilia, Sherco, and Husqvarna, and the KTM's have easily been the best. The Super Duke won Motorcyclist mag's Motorcyle of the Year award last year, and they're a relatively new entrant to the street bike market.Go to an amateur hare scramble, GP, or enduro race, and it seems like 1/2 the field is on KTM's.
I feel pretty confident that KTM has done their homework, and that the X-Bow will be a badass ride.
