Ordered an /M4 :)
Just a warning about the bmw, it has the tendency for electronic gremlens and they CANT always fix them. I have an ongoing intermittant problem they can't fix, it effects the M sport cars mostly, go figure? I am lucky I am on a lease....and the m badges, they are part of the M sport package and after a while they don't matter other than bragging rights, like 9000 rpm redline on a S2000, after a while 8000 rpm cars (AP2) are just as good if not better without the bragging. I wish you luck. After all on the open public roads how much of the 8 10th car are you going to use, especailly with the kids on board? whatever you choose I hope it works out well for you, honestly these can be great cars, it's my third bmw and probably my last.

Oh, ok well whatever, lol............it sounds amazing and I never really gave it much thought.
Ill give it a try once I get the car to see the difference
The sound from the F80 M3 is really weird. Hard to tell where it's coming from, front (engine), back (exhaust) or the speakers. It's kind of a growly low sound which doesn't change pitch much in the RPM range. I'm not sure I like it at all but the motor is fantastic, instant grunt from 2,000 rpm onwards much easier to drive on the street than the E90 M3 but the E90 with a Meisterschaft exhaust sounds 100X better.

I dunno. I drove around in an Open downpipe Turbo S2000, so I am kind of over the loud and obnoxious thing (unless its a Ferrari, lol. That being said, im sure Ill get bored of stock exhaust and will upgrade eventually
Congrats, I'm big on the m3 forum and from all my readings, I think you snagged a pretty good deal on a well optiond car!
The M4 was more popular than the M3 at this year's SEMA event but for a family man, I agree the M3 is a better choice, why did you pick the M4 with a family?

The ultimate setup (which that guy Money2546 or whatever his S/N is, is the M3 with the 991 GT3, but I cant swing that so I had to settle for just the M4
)

I'd never buy a car that expensive without discussing it with my wife first (in general, if not specifically) to make sure we're on the same page. I usually start 12-24 months before I actually purchase so that she has lots of time to warm up to the idea.

I'll gladly settle for a 997 GT3, 991S or C7 Z51.

I can't tell you how many people I know who match their car's MSRP to their anual salary, plus or minus 10%. Frightening.

The thing your are both forgetting is that a cars MSRP is only part of the equation. Think about ultra limited edition supercars. They cost ridiculous amounts of money, but they depreciate slower or not at all compared to your typical car. So sometimes spending more on something that will retain its value makes more sense than spending less on something that will drop like a rock in value.
What I say is, buy something you like, that's somewhat unique, and you will be rewarded with less depreciation. This works better for used cars than new cars, almost all new cars depreciate.
Also. JonBoy missed my dig about the NSX not coming out for another 1-2 years. I guess I should have said 2020 NSX!

Depreciation is only part of the equation, but repairs and maintenance that could kick your checkbook's ass is another. Also, don't forget the cost of capital, whether it's yours tied up that could be earning money on productive investments, &/or borrowed money you have to pay interest on. Every time I see a nice car these days, I appreciate it, but then remind myself that I'd rather have that money invested in apartments that produce steady double-digit cash-on-cash returns and huge appreciation potential.
