jeez....i'd rather have the 997
one of the biggest appeals for the boxster for me is the fact that i so much dislike the carrera cabs....but i don't see why people would take the boxster coupe over any 997 coupe.

Some people like the boxster better then the 911 because its more of a drivers car. Theres seems to be more sport in the boxster. The 911 does have more power though. I think the boxster coupe is a great idea though. Mid-engine, light weight, and very fun. I believe the new boxster S has 280hp, but I think someone said the price tag would be up there though so a 997 maybe a better value overall.

With the 3.2L engine in the S (either convert & presumably coupe) now putting out 287 hp and Porsche reporting 0-60 times of 5.2 - and we all know they are very conservative with times, you can expect a pretty quick car for about 20K less than a 997. Not everyone loves verts. I'd have rather had the S2000 in a tin top based on ease of getting to a track (no broomstick test) and possible increased rigidity.

All that said, I have to wonder myself how great the market will be. How many owners track their car to make that a concern? Further, as someone else here once said, if you're going to pay 58K or so for a mildly optioned Boxster S coupe, you might be better off getting a C6 Zo6 which may be out at the same time.

I'm a Porsche fan, so I'd consider it - love the Boxster S, and wouldn't mind it with a roof. Overall the Z06 is a better performance car IMHO, but then, the Evo is a better pure performance car than an S2000 IMO and I've still got the S.
