i miss old Porscheeee
Secondly, since Mike's sarcasm evidently sailed clear over your head: you're railing against the Boxster because it's "cheap" ($45k is cheap these days?!?) then turn around and proclaim your love for the 924 (which was Porsche's cheapest model at the time, and is available for a few thousand dollars now) and the 944 Turbo (which was in turn a variant of Porsche's cheapest model at the time, and is now available for under $10k). I guess we're all entitled to our own opinions, but why is a $45k car too cheap but a sub-$10k car not? How does that work?

Having driven the Boxster S and 911, I wouldn't go that far. Sure, they're excellent cars, but I didn't feel like dumping my S because of its fun and value factors. However, wouldn't kick any of those out of bed though.
The OP is from Panama. He doesn't know any better.
I keed.

I keed.it's not like the boxster all that much more than an s2000. if given the choice, y'all would be silly to pass up the poor man's porsche boxster over any version of the s2000.
period.
so to say it's a poor man's porsche is completely inane. the boxster is an awesome car and same goes for all the other cars in porsche's line-up. they make incredible automobiles that cost more than the comp but there's a reason why they can pull this off.
because it's the sh!t.
I've driven a Boxster a few times, and I like it. I would rather own an S2000, mainly for cost of ownership reasons. The car costs less to buy, costs less to maintain, costs less to operate, costs less to insure, etc.
If you gave me a Boxster for free and paid for the maintenance, or even just made up the difference between that and an S2000, I would happily drive it.
I must say, it impressed the hell out of my dad when my friend Pete tossed him the keys to his Boxster and said, "go ahead and drive it" (at Laguna Seca!). Dad said no, but he was still pleased when I drove him around the track in Pete's car. I suspect it was the first time Dad had been in a Porsche, certainly the first time on a race track.
(These were low-speed "touring" laps being run in the morning, just before a lapping day began. We didn't take my car because it would have taken too long to get Dad buckled in to the harnesses. We only had a couple minutes to get out on the track.)

Exactly what I'm talking about, Mike.
There's just way too much posturing going on in threads like these (rampant on internet car forums full of dorks).
Why must some of you dog on another car to have you like your car better? Why can't you guys be more open minded and realize a lot of car manufacturers make a lot of great cars these days? You can have your favorites, but don't be so myopic and provincial forcing yourself out of bad habit to relegate those that you don't own as "wrong" or crap.
It's lazy. Sloth-like. Ignorant.
Drive a Cayman or Boxster or Carrera or GT3 or Cayenne and just embrace the goodness of Porsche.
With all that said, I do miss my S2000 and M3. Each of their unique set of benefits and concerns. I'd own and drive them all if I could!

I still disagree - I could have purchase a mildly used Boxster (and it was, in fact, on my short list of convertibles), *but* I really did prefer the S2000. This is my first Honda product, my previous ride being a Z06, so I don't have any particular brand loyalty.
I totally understand where you're coming from though

This guy is insinuating the new puppies. As we all know the newest S2000 isn't much better if any than the MY00 S2000.
