I talked at length with an Acura Customer Service Manager, who said that the Earthquake/Tsunami a few years back wiped out a lifetime of the stockpiled stock of replacement parts. Parts that will never be retooled for again for a discontinued car. This issue will sadly park a lot of these cars in the future.
As much as I've always liked the NSX this would probably deter me from every considering this car now.
In the future, when all the spare parts are used up it will basically cost you an arm and a leg for a normally regular maint. item.

I am a big fan of the Cayman S. It is such an amazing car to drive and also exceeded my expectations. I do firmly believe that the newer Cayman's are faster than the NSX and offers an equivalent driving experience. It is something you will already feel when you get behind the wheel. I also liked how the car is a modern car with more creature comforts and a solid feel. If one was to consider purchasing a NSX, I would strongly urge that they test drive a Cayman S first.

However, the NSX still offers a more "raw" experience. I also found that the engine note of the NSX sounded better. In order to really make a proper decision, you would have to drive both cars back to back. The seller of my NSX met with me at his bank to complete the transaction and his personal banker owns a (very lightly) modified Cayman S so I was able to get a fair comparison before purchasing the car. He offered plenty of insight about both cars before I signed the paperwork.

(Plus, I think if you really look at the cars side by side, the NSX is a far more elegant car to stare at.)

With the NSX becoming more of a collector's car, this was to be expected. Owning a NSX is not a very practical decision. Most owners made the decision because they have always wanted one. However, the cost to own one of these cars is still far less than many of the exotic cars on the market and with very strong support from shops like Science of Speed, I believe these cars will be around for a while.

Very nice report of your car search. There are some great cars out there and the S2000 is one of them for some of us. I had an '87 Mazda RX-7 turbo coupe which was a terrific car. When I decided to replace it I drove a 3rd gen, 93 or 94. That was an awesome performer, scary fast. Didn't buy it because of cigarette smell and really wanted a roadster. Sometimes wis I had.

Seeing your red NSX is making me so envious.

I've always lusted over the NSX, and really considered one when I finally moved away from the S2000.
However, knowing I need to use my car as a daily always scared me away from it and I wound up getting a Cayman.

I still get the itch though...

I have this same fear for the S2000... parts one day becoming scarce and difficult to find because of discontinuation. I gotta believe though that there are ways to get what you need, even if it means having it custom fabricated (obviously costly, but an option). I stay hopeful though because I know the 60's / 70's muscle car guys or other vintage car owners must run into the same problem but they seem to keep their cars alive and well.

Congrats OP on the NSX... love it, one of my dream cars
