Default Pulling trigger on 335 coupe.

Well, I went 9 months without car swapping.

Kept lusting after the 335 coupe after driving it a few months back....

Tried to resist.

Tried to resist....

Test drove again with the wife.

She liked it....

Hemming and hawing....

Upgraded some parts on the S2000.

Tried to resist.....

But the 335 is such a fantastic car....

I've decided to trade in....

My wife's S4!!! Wooohooo!

We'll wait until winter passes to pick it up, it'll take a little time for the car to be made to spec.

I wouldn't trade my S2000 for one, but I've been trying to figure out a way to get one into the garage.

I would have ordered 2 of them. That lease special was killer. I think today is the last day

It's an 04 S4 (V8).

It's a great car, but the 335 has it beaten in cruising comfort (the Audi is a little jarring... much worse than the S2000).

Also in 04, the quattro was still FWD biased, making it prone to a little understeer at the limit. Plus you can feel the heft.

On paper, the S4 has more hp and the same torque as the 335. But the difference is in the weight and the driving dynamics.

I've had the same thoughts...been thinking about my S2000's possible successor, and while I loved the 335i, didn't think it would fill the S2000's shoes. It would be a great replacement for my wife's Jetta, however...but she loves her Jetta, and wouldn't appreciate the extra power.

Enjoy the 335, they're great cars!

Congrats. The S4 is a nice car, but I never liked it much. Like you said it's FWD based and nose heavy and just plain heavy.

I don't say that to slam the S4, its a nice car, but I just don't think it would do it for me. My co-worker traded his 911 turbo in on a S4 so there you go.

Darn it all, my wife wants her next car (to replace her Trooper) to be another SUV, probably going to get a new MDX costs just as much as a 335i.

sorry guys, the S4 quattro is NOT FWD biased, nor FWD based. it's the quattro system in the TT and A3 that is FSB based. (Torsen vs. Haldex)

it definitely is heavy though.

It killed me when she opted for an automatic S4.

She's leaning towards an auto 335 as well.

Her argument is:
1. BMW's manual gearboxes aren't as nice as the S2000s and I'd be constantly comparing them.
2. With the new torque converter and electronic rev matching of the BMW auto, there's not much performance degredation in the auto, esp if you brake stand to launch

Any thoughts? I prefer manual, but if there really is no performance decrement... and it's HER daily driver, is it worth a fight?

I would say, the slushy is fine.

If this was a 911 carrera (for example) I would put up a fight. But for a car like the 335i (or other TQ-heavy cars like the C6) I would say the AT is fine.

For re-sale the AT is better and as you said it's her car so might as well not fuss too much. That way she won't get much say in your next car.
