R32 GTR Thread
IMG_5576 by sandhu825No real updates on the R32 but I did pick up another stable-mate for it.
IMG_5627 by sandhu825I'm excited to have an S2000 next to the Skyline and compare the two. The S2000 is such a blast to drive and never fails to put a smile on my face. The turn-in is extremely crisp compared to the R32 and the driving experience keeps you on the edge. The R32 is not as sharp as the S2000 during initial turn-in, but offers more confidence mid-corner and exit. If the sound of the F22C at 8000 rpm is aural bliss, then the RB26 is satan attacking the earth. It's raw and brutal on-throttle and thunderous off-throttle, popping and shooting flames any chance it gets.
Driving the R32 is a collection of events leading to sensory overload. It never fails to put a smile on my face, but the fear of someone running into it, or cracking the windshield due to a rock always lingers the back of my head. The driving experience is slightly clouded because of this, but that is a fault of the environment and not the car. This is not so much a problem in the S2000 since parts are easier to find and the car can be replaced if needed. Due to that, the S is easier to drive day-to-day and having the ability to put the top down just adds to the driving experience. Both of the cars are enjoyable in their own way; The knife-edge nature of the S2000 and the raw aura the R32 emits are worlds apart, but they lead to the same end result of pure driving enjoyment.
Very nice Skyline, especially to pick one up that is mostly stock, like a clean canvas to work with.
I've been on the fence about perhaps getting one of these down the road, just wanted to know some of the pros and cons about them, and you have summed some of those up.
Great thread too. Keep it up.

Sorry but R32 is ugly, if they were available in the US all along, then these days it would just be another old 240SX stanced out drift car owned by dumb kids. R34 still looks good, too bad the prices are sky high now, even in Japan.

I didn't like the look much at first but it is very purposeful, and a simple drop and TE37s help finish off an already aggressive profile. I don't think I agree with your statement about the 240sx crowd though. This was NSX money when new and one of the best platforms of its time. The way they have shot up in value shows they would have been out of reach for most stancebros. The non-GTR Skylines are a different story though.
It is possible that these may have eventually ended up stanced out/drifted by kids IF they were always available in the US. But guess what?
I've always been a fan of the R32. It has a purposeful classic aggressive Japanese look to it IMO. It also seems to hark back to when Nissan actually cared about build quality of their products.
Would definitely love to drive one some day.
