Straight line speed is important because nearly all races are simple straight line races. A lot of people say they are going to track the s2k but never actually do so whats the point of saying "well it will beat it in a corner?"

Also corners are always good fun on a road, but if you are taking them hard enough to overcome the handling limitations of other vehicles compared to an s2k, your driving way to fast for public roads...
Since then though, I've stopped with the needless danger. That and gas is expensive to just waste it.

You do realize that once the Camry and S2000 get to a corner, the Camry will be seeing S2000 taillights for the rest of the drive. And, the last I checked, the S2000 was 0.5 secs faster 0-60 than that in C&D own magazine, I think it was 5.3s and the quarter is in the 13.8s range.

whats funny to me is that the mustang GT owners have to concede the same thing.
Do you guys remember when the Stang GT was at 225HP for many years until they finally got a bump up in power in 99 to 260?
Before 99, you had cars with half the number of cylinders keeping up and/or beating them.
Speed is all relative. Our cars are still fast IMO. It's just that a lot of other cars have been getting faster, like the OP said. It wasn't too long ago that 14s was considered fast.
