Its always funny to hear S2000 drivers complain about how another car has no torque.

I drove my friends RX8 a couple times. If I remember right it has a few of the Mazdaspeed options on it. Its a pretty cool car, fun to drive. I would still take my s2k over one anyday. Like the others have said though, if I needed a car with small backseat for any reason, I would consider buying one.

I am 6' 1" so seeing the top gear review, I think the back seats wouldn't exist for me and my tall friends, and merely pointless weight.
Its an alright car, but like the ford mustang, I wouldn't drive it because of the owners being lame as I have witnessed >.>. Although I would somewhat agree with people who say s2000 are dicks since 1/2 the drivers can't notice there's another s2000 on the street and wave back when we wave.
I am also not a fan of the design, but the RX-7 seems far more beautiful of a car than the rx-8.
So honestly I see them both as 2 seaters and wouldn't subject my passengers to such discomfort as sitting in the back seat. If I had the option I would get an s2000 over an rx-8 any day. I average 26 mpg, and city driving it can be one of the quietest cars or the loudest cars. Its highly amusing to constantly get talked crap to by v-6 mustangs owners who think their car is 10x faster than your "rice burner" stock s2000.
It is really a constantly amusing experience having people compliment me on my car, calling it a miata/bmw, having honda civics try to street race you and completely ignoring them etc. etc.

If it had the MS3 engine as someone else mentioned then it would be pretty cool. They are insanely cheap to pick up a used one as I guess there are a ton for sale always. Might tell you something about it..
Never driven one myself or anything though.

2 Seater Roadster vs. 2+2 [Hardtop] Coupe, from my perspective, they're not even comparable. They may have close weight/HP/etc., but the ownership experience seems totally different.

Not two cars I would cross shop.

The S2000 and RX-8 are much closer in feel, performance, and purpose than most on here would like to admit. The Mazda RX-8 is the closest thing to an S2000 hardtop coupe that you can get

Similar weight. Similar powerband. Similar handing. Similar overall performance.

Having autocrossed both in stock form, I've concluded that they are very close in overall performance. But the S2000 is slightly faster for autoX, and the RX-8 is slightly easier to drive at and beyond the limit.
