Default STI or EVO

I have been on the fence for the last few months (Winter) about getting rid of the S for something a little more usable year round. I have always been a big fan of the STI and EVO but I can't seem to get past the possibility of them not being as reliable as my current car. The only downfall in my mind for the S is it's lack of space for a one vehicle owner. Other then the space issues I have absolutely zero complaints with the car.

I have been looking pretty hard at both the STI and the EVO IX. From what I have gathered at this point I feel pretty confident in saying that the STI looks to have a hands down advantage over the EVO in the reliability department but I still can't seem to completely write off the EVO despite my concerns.

What is your opinion on the topic of reliability between these two and which would you choose as an all around better car to drive? Also, I am not concerned with any warranty differences between the two cars because I am of the opinion that all car warranties are nothing more then a marketing scam between manufacturers who in the end will try to screw you out of honoring it anyway. The hope here is to choose a vehicle that will not break enough to need the warranty headaches.

Thanks

I like the looks of the EVO and there are not that many around here. The STI is also nice and I wouldn't mind having one, but there are quite a few here.

I've always had good luck with warranties so I'm not sure what you are talking about. My extended warranty (Fidelity) replaced my S2000 tranny after 50k miles. Many of them were track miles, no questions asked. With that said I have an evo. You can't go wrong either way. I picked the evo because it handles a little better out of the box and it looks better, IMO. I can't stand the grill on the sti.

they both put down nice numbers, they both handle awesome, both are strong in terms of parts... only thing you would have to evaluate would be styling and feel of both cars. I'd choice either one, both are badass...

The Sti is bulletproof (stock anyways, couldn't tell you how reliable if you fester up the engine). I'm on iwsti.com every day as I'm researching them and from what I've read they are very, very reliable. Not really a step down from Honda, maybe a 1/2 step at best. I've heard mixed things about Mitsu and their warranties and such but I couldn't honestly tell you anything about the Evo. I've bought Hondas for years and I think Suby is the only mfr. I would run to. My $.02

Here in Canada we have 8mph bumper standards where I believe the U.S. is only 5mph. A car must be able to have an 8mph impact without sustaining more than $1000 in damage. The EVO's front mount intercooler was the main culprit in it failing the 8mph test and being rejected for sale (which is a shame) here. It was not the overall safety of the car as the basic Lancer is sold here. The EVO X is being federalized for Canada as Subaru has owned the market with the STI.
