Subaru WRX dependability?
So far my Impreza has been great. I've had a few problems, which I'm trying to get settled by Subaru. Overall I love the car.
My only problem is the customer service I've received from Subaru in San Diego. This problem that has come up has left me with a sour taste in my mouth...I don't know if I'd ever purchase another Subaru because of this.
Now don't get me wrong. The car is great, but if there isn't the proper Customer Service to back it up then the car isn't worth getting. Besides the issue that has come up the car has preformed fine.

I have had a whole series of Subarus both wagons and sedans.
The last four:
1990 Legacy AWD LS Wagon 5sp. Great car especially in snow.
1998 Outback Wagon 5sp. Same as above.
1991 Sport Sedan. Turbo Automatic no problems.
2000 Legacy GT 5sp. I miss the turbo but this is a great daily driver.
I don't have first had knowledge of the WRX. Subaru has been building AWD Turbo cars for years. Reliability is likely to be on par with other Subarus.

In stock tune the WRX is as dependable as the next Subaru but the WRX is no Supra TT when it comes to worry free hp upgrades. The driveline is the weak link and transmissions have a nasty habit of spreading themselves across the road when power is upgraded.
The WRX is not a great track car, understeer and weak brakes but conversely it is great on bumpy real life roads. The trick to driving a WRX fast is to drive with no finesse whatsoever, brake hard, trailbrake into the corner, point in the desired direction, bury right foot, deal with understeer.
Depending on how big a hurry your buddy is in he may want to wait till the EVO arrives.
