I'd rather they did a smaller, lighter, cheaper sports car than an all-singing/all-dancing giant-slaying Supra that's certain to be overwrought, overweight and overpriced.
Why not a 2-seat version of the FR-S/BRZ, with the engine/trans/firewall/windshield/front-seaters moved way aft for 50/50 or more rearward weight distribution? With optional 300hp turbo-4 or NA-6? Now *that* would interest me...

Supra was a gt 4 seat car in the same weight class as mustang/370z/etc. At the time the gt class consisted of 300zx, RX7, fail-stangs that couldn't compete with anything, the supra, and the skyline.

Toyota/Lexus does need something that keeps up with the Jones's

as long as they keep A-arms in the equation for the front suspension and it's a boost buggy, I'm down!
Probably will be based off of a new/modular chasis design that can be shared with the IS250/350s

I just hope it doesn't have electic motor(s) involved. At least not for the base model.. .

I hope it looks nothing like that concept. That thing is ugly as hell.

I just want something sporty, fun, and unique for $50k or less that is not a Corvette. Before people get all wigged out about that statement, I have had two sports cars that I kept for ten years each. At the end of that period, they had a ton of resale, they held up extremely well, and were generally all around awesome. Those have been the 1991 MR2 turbo and the S2000. I have friends that have had older Vettes, resale was poor and the cars were looked after but still generally falling apart especially the interiors. And while they are probably a blast, they are not my style.

Something from the Japanese in the market segment would be seriously welcome. I like the 370z, but it falls just short for me. A Mustang GTish+ performer is about what I am looking for. The faster and more capable my cars have become, the less I am able to use anyway.

Agreed. I think you and I will probably own many of the same cars in life.

my list, not including 7 or 8 other daily drivers over time
92 Eagle Talon TSi AWD
1995 MR2 Turbo
95 Civic with K20a2 motor swap - track car(NASA HC hopefull that I sold to change living locations)
06' 350Z
06' S2000
E36M3

Pretty sure I want to go with a GT type car next b/c I really haven't owned the high HP type sports car yet(or V8). If the new Supra were to out perform the new Mustang GT, but be cheaper than a Vette or a M2, then I'd likely go with it. I think that's doubtful though. If you look at the pricing that once was back in 1995 for the MR2 Turbo and Supra TT - The MR2 topped at about $35K - Sticker on mine was like $33,995 I believe and the Supra TT Targa was into the low $50K range. New supra will probably be $70+ I bet.

I'm trying not to buy anything for the next year to see what new comes out and what is in the works that looks promissing(Supra alacarte)(BMW M2)(Mustang ____ pack)(possibly Golf R)(Subaru STi - if they break-out from the WRX)((a updated FRS/BRZ turbo) For now, the E36 M3 fits nicely as a double duty car.

I heard the Supra would likely have some sort of electric drive in it. If they go this route it's going to be a car that will compete with the GTR in performance and sticker price. There's been talks of the GTR getting electric upgrades as well. I'm not on pace to afford anything on that level.
