thinking about an RX7
Search for one there have been many discussions about RX-7s on these forums since many believe that the RX-7 and S2000 are similar driving tools ...
Regarding the reliability, the car will be as reliable as you tune it. The engine is not built (read: over built Supra) for mistakes so you mess up the AFR and you will either get a new engine or a rebuild. Make sure you either buy a cheap one that you know needs some work or buy a GREAT example that will not need any work.
The LS1 is a great idea too...
Good luck.....

Ain't that the truth. It seems like every other week there's an RX-7 thread just like this one.Christople's right. You won't get much of a discussion out of us on this anymore. It's been "played out" oh about 600 times.
Forget the LS1 swap if you want more info got www.rx7club.com and look up the username jimlab and there is all the info you need on the swap. If you keep ever thing mostly stock the upkeep is moderate. Most people only pass on what they here not what they have found out for themself they are great cars find one with low miles and bone stock would be your best bet. Oh and 3mm apex seals don't help anything.
I had a hard-on for 3rd gen. RX7's from the moment they came out. However if you've been shopping for them for a while you'll notice that a least 50% of them claim to have new engines. Great car with great potential but you'd better have deep pockets and a backup driver.
I know that these cars are prone to detonation if tuned the wrong way. Detonation can be extremely detrimental to a rotary. However, let's just say that the car is kept stock...
If you were to vent the hood, get a bigger intercooler and radiator, remove the AC unit which sits in front of the radiator to allow more airflow, underhood temps should substantially decrease and reduce the chance of the vaccumm hoses from drying up and cracking which can lead to many leaks and problems.
By performing these modifications, the stock RX7 should not cause that many headaches.
Correct me if I am wrong guys...
