The RX-7 just goes to show how few RELIABLE sub 3000 pound RWD sports cars exist.

Makes me love my S2000 even more.

Miata?

The RX-7's reliability problems are primarily due to its twin turbo setup, not its light weight.

One of the best drivers cars ever IMO. I'd reccomend getting a never wrecked rolling chassis, with a blown engine, and rebuilding from the ground up with a single.

Built right, the car is bulletproof - the prblem is it came with a ton of issues from the factory, so initial rebuilds were almost a given. As well, trying to find one that hasn't been modified is hard, and when you modify, reliability drops.

When the car is running in good condition, the engine is bulletproof though. The rotary engine is a great thing to experience. I think people talk about RX-7s like Camry owners talk about sports cars.

love the FD3S, just not the rotary part. LS1/2/7 V8 swap and you have yourself a 350whp+ sub 3000lbs rocket thats DD'able.

If you are looking for a car to have about 300 whp you can do it to the RX7 with relatively little modifications. Fixed up & still pretty reliable up to about 400 whp with a nice single turbo setup, some engine work. But once you go beyond that is when the reliability suffers.

For lightweight, looks & balance this car is hard to beat.

Sexy, good-looking car, even for a 14 yr-old car!

The Miata in stock form cannot be compared to the S2000, Boxster S (the old model) or RX7. The 2004-2005 MazdaSpeed Miata on the other hand is very close but still a notch below the S2000.

As for the lightweight part I didn't mean the RX7 is not reliable because it's lightweight. I'm just saying there are very few sub 3000 pound reliable sports car.

I agree with you completely. I went to a subaru meet and one guy kept ranting on and on about "rotary this" and "problems that" about my car. Fact of the matter is, most people talking about them like that have never owned, nor have had any experience with rotary engines.
