I have mine set on LOUD! When I get strobed, it alerts me and I press the volume button to "mute" it (make it quiet.) The little slider will adjust the volume while in mute mode, so it is still audible, but very low--so it doesn't block out the radio or piss off the wife . I find it an excellent feature! While in "mute" you can still monitor the current "threat." Once the threat is gone, it resets to loud automatically to alert you to any new threats.
