Default Vtec

Hey guys i was wondering can you REALLY feel vtec? I have rode in my friends FD rx7 with sequential turbos and truthfully i never felt a "kick" or hear anything. So is vtec just a over rated honda thing?
I know rx7 does not have any variable valve timing but i figured if i couldnt feel turbos then why would vtec be any different.

Without VTEC, it would be like driving a civic EX.

If it were optimally tuned, you wouldn't feel the VTEC engagement point. But for marketing reasons, it's delayed about 1000 rpms so that you get a mild kick.

No, it's a real advance in engine technology from over a decade ago.

But it does allow honda to release a 240hp car with the gas milage of a 170hp car. The Mazda referenced would be luck to get 10mpg.
