Default What engine is easier to add power to?

08 Subi STi
305hp at 6000 rpm
290-TQ at 4400 rpm

BMW
300hp at 5800 rpm
300-TQ at 1400-5000 rpm

What's easier/safer to add power to?

I don't mean make it into a 900hp car or anything, I mean more-or-less un-touched engine power upgrade?

How do you figure adding power to a car will effect the drivetrain (ie. clutch, tranny, differential etc..)?

I never had a turbo and don't know much about them, but I would assume (stock) the BMW is superior as it's larger displacement and flat/fat TQ curve.

just found this:
[QUOTE]Good morning, here is some awesome Monday news from Dinan:

Available now at all 150 Dinan dealers.

Dinan, the leader in BMW tuning is now introducing the long awaited BMW 335i Dinan Performance Engine Software. After 29 years of engineering quality Dinan continues to introduce products that are researched, developed and fully tested to meet and exceed the quality and reliability standards of the BMW factory. This new software continues this tradition and is available December 2007.

Design

The revolutionary Dinan Performance Engine Software increases boost from 8.8psi to 13.2psi with properly retuned fuel mixtures, ignition timing and full map rescaling. All of these dimensions in the software lead to an enhanced car that behaves like stock and operates as reliable as OEM.

That'll be nice in an X3 / X5 / Z4.

I also wonder what that would do to the 335 convertible....

I'd pay $4k for that. Wonder if there are going to be tuners that deconstruct the software and sell it for less.

The Subi engine has been around 3 years and the BMW a year (in the 3-series)

Two ways to look at it. bimmer is 10-15k more and, while the Dinan stuff is covered under warranty is a big + IMO, it is very expensive. Vishnue has a tune as well but no warranty. The STI is an inexpensive car to mod yourself and have fun with. I did everyhting but the reflash myself. turbo swap, intake exhaust etc. everything but the header and the intake pipe are very easy to get to and work on to add inexpensive power. If you got the $ I say Bimmer, warranty is worth it, but I have not seen that many issues with tuned STI's blowing motors.

There are a lot more choices for the subi. When there is more competition and more R&D time it's usually going to be higher quality and cheaper.
