My point of this topic is that as pointed out the Elise uses a crate engine in this case from Toyota.

How much more would the Solstice turbo cost or the highest power Honda engine? If it was a matter of $5K more I think it'd be well worth it considering the cost of FI to an existing engine that doesn't even match those engines power figures (the SC engine in the Exige is not even as powerful as the NA engine in the S2000).
IIRC, I believe Honda didn't want to sell engines to Lotus. They need a supply agreement, and can't just order crate engines expecting a mfg. to provide sufficient volume.

Toyota has no competition in 2 seat sportscars, but Honda and GM do.

Pishhh, more like a Bugatti Veyron engine.... How does 1 hp / 1.4 pounds sound?

Yes I am kidding although NASA might ask to borrow your car for long distance trips to places like, oh Jupiter...

And in case you ever wondered, the space shuttles have about 8.2 hp / 1 pound.

Well at least I got someone to respond to my overtly absurd reply.

As far as the Toyota engine in a Lotus point goes, I don't think that holds much water. First of all, Toyota-powered Elises are going to be far more reliable than the Rover K-series examples (though not any moreso than Honda-powered versions). Second of all, people were probably saying this in the 1970s, but DeTomaso still used Ford engines to comparatively good success. Bizzarini and other Italian makes did as well, and people still bought them. DeTomaso prices haven't exactly suffered over the last 30+ years because of it.

You could argue it was a pretty high-performance Ford V8 going into the Pantera back then, but the Toyota 2ZZ-GE isn't exactly a low-performing 4-cylinder (though I think it pales compared to Honda's F series).

Likewise, what are you going to say when Lexus unveils its high-dollar sports car? What about Aston's Ford Duratec V6-derived V12? The Veyron's VW VR-based W16? The BMW V12 in the F1? The Merc V12 in the Zonda? The Ford V8 in the Koenigsegg?

[QUOTE=rockville,Feb 23 2007, 06:51 PM] I would like something with a bit of displacement, little weight and more than 4 pots. I also prefer the feel of normally aspirated engines. I think the SVT Duratec 2.5L V6 would be great. Nice looking motor with a beautiful exhaust note. It

K20 or 24 ftw!
I saw an article on a built MR2 with a K20 swap. I wanted to drive it way more than any turboed MR2 spyder
