From Wikipedia--

I actually cross shopped the BMW M5 with the G8 GXP. The G8 was surprisingly MUCH bigger than the Bimmer when you sit in it. I was shocked at the rear seat room in the G8. I actually also looked at the new CTS-v, but there was not enough space for what i needed.

Intriguing. At the risk of sounding like a magazine boyracer, I'd be happy with any kind of power that can achieve a 0-60 time in the mid 4-second range.

Under 4 seconds is just nasty in a mid-sized sedan.

1-series = too small
A3 = If I remember correctly, they only come in a hatchback and are a bit undersized for me. I believe the 1-series is their direct competitor, and neither of those two cars are on my market list.
Golf R = awesome styling with decent power, but again, too small and the hatchback is a dealbreaker for me.

Appresh the suggestions though.

Hoenstly, that is not bad looking at all.

But it's the "beak" bumpers on the TLs and (on the rest of the Acura lineup for the matter) that really kill it for me.

I am leaning towards a new 328. The new turbo 4 is pretty powerful, I like the fact the engine is tucked behind the front axle for better weight balance, and it gets good gas mileage. I think this is the best option available, and I am in the same boat as the OP, and share many of the same opinions after reading the thread...

I might consider waiting for the 2nd MY of the new 328s for BMW to work out the kinks and to hear if there are any issues with the turbo/plumbing on their new 4cyl engine.

It does sound like the BMW is the car for you though.

Relax boys, I was shamelessly trolling by making that ignorant comment. Love what Pontiac has done with the GXP, but they're in a completely different class than the cars I am in the market for.
But to be honest, if I were shopping for a car in the full-sized class, the gorgeous new 5-series would unequivocally get my vote.

Gave the NA 330i's some thought, but wish the N52's were a bit more high-strung and produced somewhere closer to 260-280 hp.

Appreciate the suggestions everybody. It's great that after all these years, S2ki CarTalk is still the same (if not even more) vibrant community with true enthusiasts and great ideas. I think the 335i is the clear winner...now if I can just find a used one at a dealership to go on a test drive, hmm..

My brother has a B7 RS4, V8 420HP 4.2 shared with the R8. 6 speed manual, AWD, sounds great, comfortable, great interior, good ride. Only downside is it's not very good on gas.

Maintenance is a nightmare. Outside of that I agree.

You have to spend the big bucks to get into something pretty exciting. That being said I would choose most any current Mercedes Benz over its BMW competition without hesitation as I cannot stand BMW's styling these days.
I agree. I mentioned earlier in the thread that I would've strongly considered a C class, had it come w/ a manual. The C class is a solid car, and they generally are quite reliable as well. The only complaint is that they can be a bit "soft" (not very responsive handling), and of course, have no manual option. I drove a newer C class and the model I drove definitely felt much better than older models. It's definitely a sport sedan, just lacking a manual..
