The FD is very easy. I don't have a pic, but it's right behind the intake elbow and faces down. The S is also very easy to work on.

Worst has to be the 1.8l Mazda Miatas. You had to either jack the car up and remove the whole plastic air flow sheet from under the car, OR reach down between the intake manifold and engine (on a warm/hot engine) to unscrew it a 1/8" turn at a time.

i don't recall anything like that on my 1.6 tho'

it can be removed from the top or the bottom with relative ease.

lexus is300 auto trans motor oil filter sits under the intake mani, you can't get it out from under and you get it from the top, you have to tip the filter over(yes, the oil will be on everything under the intake mani, which is a bitch to clean) at an angle to pull it clean of the intake mani.

the easiest would be all the BMW's, the canister is right at your face with a big arse bolt

I agree on the 4runner filter placement. Parents used to have a '95 t100 had the exact same engine/filter placement. Always got oil all over the driveway

On my 944 turbo, oil spills everywhere and there is very little space to get it out, once it's removed.

i never understood why manufacturers always put oil filters straight up on a turbo car since you have to precharge the filter when you change the oil

The question is whether pre-charging (partially filling) the filter actually reduces wear for that extra couple of seconds, when the engine is warm. I doubt it.

I can't even get at the filter on my 03 Tacoma. It amazed me when I saw how they redisigned the newer engines to have the filter right on the top of the engine. It went from an unbelivably bad design to an excellent design.

my wrx is a pain in the ass to change, I have to remove the under tray to access it and even then it is too cramped to get a oil filter wrench on it.
