If just X5 vs ML than hands down X5. The ML looks more like a Merc minivan/suv than a stout tough SUV like the X5.

I would get the Escalade though over both (black or white). That car is a showboat and I love it.

I think the ML 55 is faster than the 4.6 X5

DON'T BUY ANY OF THEM. Look in Consumer Reports magazine issues and see both have less than average reliability and are not recommended. Go for the Toyota 4Runner. It handles just as well as the ML because of offroad prowess, stability control, and traction control. But if you really want an UNRELIABLE car, get the X5 or ML.

Is this a joke? I had a 4Runner, and it was reliable, but to consider it in the same class as the X5 or ML is ludicrous. The X5 I drove was so awesome that I'd be willing to live w/ a few more troubles for the pleasure of owning one! If I didn't need a pickup truck, I'd consider selling it and my S2000 for this one do-it-all vehicle.

The 4Runner is popular b/c it's relatively affordable, has been out much longer than the German SUV's. I don't think the typical luxury SUV owner cares too much about gas mileage, either.

I'd be willing to bet that Speedracer's mom is more concerned w/ luxury and a smooth ride than gas mileage or off-road prowess. Remember that personal favorites rarely work for everyone's needs!
