Gotta love automotive engineers. I have no doubt this motor and car are going to be TOUGH when it's finally released.

Have you ever known anyone who replaced steel retainers
or upper spring plates with Ti ones only to have the engine
fail horribly soon after.

(It was a big fad in BMW land with people who had the
early (95) M3's)

Ti is "stronger" right?

Well, not really.. if Ti isn't machined right, coated right, etc.
it starts to come apart under sustained friction sort of like
a gummy eraser - only in very slow motion.

There is all sorts of engineering that needs to be done for Ti.

You can't just "copy" a steel part in Ti and expect it to work.
Yikes. Another reason I don't "upgrade" my car with parts that I know have not been thoroughly engineered and tested.

Another reason to wait a few years to get the new Z.

I dono why, Ive never really trusted Ti retainers... now I know why...

Also, I always worry about aftermarket valvesprings... these two being very common upgrades in many cars...
