Audi A3 TDI 170bhp.
Has anyone drove one? I had a test in a 130 last year, I need to know
how the 170 performs before I get another test drive, which at my
local Audi dealer is a nightmare to arrange.
I know they are numb etc but has it got any grunt. (Mini replacement)

Dull car with grunt... best looking small hatch IMO and a nice interior.
Having said that, I think the Golf GT TDI is a good option, and it has also got 170ish bhp from a 1.4.
The Audi would be a flyer with a quick REVO remap to 200bhp or a Superchip.

My views on Audi, Seat and Golf diesels over here:

I was looking at a 170bhp A3 TDI as a replacement for my S (due to increasing commuting distance) and in the end I decided against it and instead went for 2.0T petrol version with 200BHP and 280NM of torque (same engine as the Golf GTi). It's worth giving some thought to this as an option???
By all ccounts, the 170TDI is similar in everyday performance once they're on their way. The petrol is quicker from rest and at the top end.
The reason I went for the petrol was more fun for not much higher costs than the diesel.
I get about 35mpg from my petrol vs the diesel's expected 45mpg so whilst the running costs of the diesel are lower, it also costs more in the first place.
I reckon that over 3 years and 50K miles it'll cost me about
