I don't think so.
Although I'd guess that it's possible to hide yourself behind a lorry if you get the angles right.
My mate does this all the time, he only needs to get tight up behind a high wagon as he enters the detection area, hasn't been caught yet, so it may work. I have seen lately that specs cameras now seem to be fitted in sections throughout roadworks rather than a pair covering the entire stretch.

Specs most definetly do work. I got done with 3 points 6 yrs ago for 47 in a 40.
They do also read across the entire carriageway. More info on PH.

How sad and pathetic and all to save a few minutes.
Hopefully your smart arse mate will get caught out.

Some cameras have weight detectors in the road and some have height detectors But I don't know which ones apart from one going westbound on the A303

Someone I know got "done" - they had to prove they were 7.5ton

Newer SPECS have IR capability so no amount of obscuring will help part from a heavy paint finish or Bond style drop down cover.........now there's an idea!

Or just take the front plate off.

Sorry, I meant didn't know it was missing officer.

Anyhow, SPECS and GATSO...
No there are no weigh cells or anything else in the road as there doesn't need to be.
Radar is capable of assesing the LGVs height by the reflected signal anyhow.
And with ANPR technology all data is recorded and then compared to the plate/V5 data in almost realtime.
Simple stuff, and it works well.
An aquaintance here in Somerset wrote a lot of the software, and also for road charging apps too

Would the camera differentiate between the number plates and the
trade plates tied to it ?

Russ.

Trade plates are traceable too of course, and one would assume it reads everything it recognises as being a 'number plate'.

No doubt if it reads a vehicle and cannot determine the plate I would expect it to store a still image for human perusal
