I just don't understand why the Exige got so heavy from that one to the next.

I saw a car on the telly the other day that was 320kg, and it looked more substantial than my bloody Elise!

I suppose because they turned it into proper road car that's good on track rather than a track car that's horrible on the road. And falls apart

320kg what was that then?

Never really understood bhp/ton... well I get what it means, but I used to think this was the main indicator of real world performance.

But, our 335d has 'only' got 175 but is a shade faster than the S to 100mph - 13.8 versus 14.1

Whats that all about?
Area under the torque curve. Which is why the x35Ds are such stompers, and thet's before they're chipped.

BHP/Tonne is a very crude indicator.

A good example would be to compare the NSX with the S2000; the former has a table-top torque curve and feels it. The S2000 needs a lot of work, which makes it far more exciting/terrifying.

They're not far apart on BHP/tonne though!

I seen that before somewhere. What's the story behind it?

The lotus elise GT1? simplest explantion is here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Elise_GT1

Lotus built some of them to race in the GT series and had to make one for retail, even if they didn't sell it.

It wasn't successful, but i still think it looks amazing.

If they sold the elise with the the turbo charged lotus V8 in a car looking like this, i'd sell my soul to the devil to have one as a trackday toy!
