Just had this problem with the wifes 120d, BMW do a repair kit now rather than the 2k it used to cost. See link below

If not covered under warranty then £380 ish. Well known fault.

to Bowker BMW in Preston for sorting this out.They honoured the warranty and all we had to pay was the costs of the diagnostics check. BMW paid for the parts and the labour.
A good outcome thankfully!
