What's wrong with Havoc? FFS, mate, calm down. We're allowed to defend our cars just as much as you are allowed to wind up owners (of which you yourself are one), which seems to be your purpose on this thread and the one you've posted a link to.

The S2000 is NOT the best car in the world, but it's very bloody good. Road races with fellow petrolheads (and you can tell when someone is having fun against you) are probably irresponsible but are a different kettle of fish to having some miserable-looking driver in any car driving erratically near you because they're on some ego trip ("Not having a hairdresser's car overtaking me!"), as Nottm mentioned with his BMW driver and I said with the Audi bloke.

It doesn't give me a superiority complex. I am not against German cars. I do not hate anyone who gets in my way.

I am beginning to get seriously brassed off with you wind up merchants coming on here to rile S2000 owners. I don't go on any other car model forum and slag their cars off, nor do I belittle them for having pride in their chosen car. So please don't do it on here.

That is soo true, it bears repeating.

It's also a reaction to the ennui that, around here at least, one cannot move for A3s, A4s, 3ers & C-Klasse.

I used to laugh gently at those who bought a Riley instead of an Austin. Partly because the grilles looked so pompous.

Or who said "you can't go wrong with Ford," when one so obviously could.

'Twas a joke Nick, hence the

Purely based on my experiences.....if we're to apply stereotypes...

BMW drivers think they are the only car on the road
Audi drivers are posers
Peugot drivers have chip/shoulder issues
Honda drivers are over-confident and dangerous
Subaru drivers are noisy

But if an S2000 races away at some lights (unless they're being obviously stupid), I don't think "what a tosser, thinks he's in an F1 car". The thread went from someone in a 330 racing off some lights (note, TWO cars racing from some lights), to anyone not fit to race an S2000 being a deluded asshole.

And yes, I do have a tendency to keep digging myself deeper into discussions that can never have a decisive outcome

We used to laugh at one of my uncles who drove an Allegro Vanden Plas. That preposterous 'Rolls Royce' grill was a constant source of amusement to my mother, who used to call him 'the upstart'.

However I now find myself hankering for little walnut occasional tables in the back of the seats

Personally I'm quite looking forward to seeing how my z4 3.0i stacks up to an S2k, should be a very close match on paper, win or lose no-one is the lesser man.
They stack up very well, you've got the 3-litre manual and that's a nice piece of kit. Quoted 0-62mph times and top speed in excess of the S2000. Lots of toys and more torque than the S2000 (cue Havoc telling me that I'm now contradicting myself or something), nice styling, ride is a bit questionable.

I like the Z4, way way WAAAAAAAAY better than a Z3 and I prefer it to every other two-seater roadster in class (TT, Boxster, SLK, 350Z Roadster)... bar the S2000. But it is a very very good car from our Bavarian friends, and I almost bought one myself (although, as you mentioned, it would have been the obligatory black with red leather, heh heh! )

I'm just trying to restore a little faith in the objectivity of the S2000 UK forum here, guys...

You assume I'm trying to wind you up. I'm not, I'm being serious. And I AM an S2000 owner - clearly I like the car enough to shell out an awful lot of my hard-earned for, just like you did.

On here, there is a LOT of bitching and slagging off of other cars and their owners. And there is an equal and opposite tendency to get irate when someone criticises part of the S2000.

I don't like either. Having an opinion about another car is fine. Going off on one about it is a little different. Claiming the S2000 is better can only be subjective.

Have also read your post on the other thread. And, for me, the engine CAN be tricky at times...if I'm driving around a corner at certain speeds, I've got to decide whether to try and drive smoothly at say 7,500rpm (you'd be surprised how 'skittish' the car can feel on an uneven surface at those rpm while cornering!), or whether to change up and then be out of VTEC for driving out of the corner. Not an issue with similar power engines with more cubes, as they've more wheel-torque at the right gear at the right speed. That said, fitting a turbo gives rise to lag and even more spiky power delivery, so they're no better.

I'm not a wind-up merchant, not here to rile anyone or piss anyone off. I might like a little spirited discussion but nm, such things are hard to do on an internet forum without people getting the wrong end of the stick.

I very nearly bought an S, felt like 'one of the gang' for a while, but plumped for a different car in the end. I'm not slagging the S off in any way, in fact I've been nothing but complimentary about it, so I don't get where you think I'm just here to 'have a go' at 'your' car from :/

What prompted the post was a) the vitriol posted at the beginning of this thread, and b) going from feeling like there is a real nice community, to dodging frankly quite unpleasant, horribly stereotyped insults.

And as to knocking you for having pride in a car...I've done no such thing....but, to make a horribly cheesy sounding statement, there is pride, and there is prejudice.

Actually, I got the 328-inspired retro styling of the Z3 better than the appearance of the Z4.

If only BMW would re-skin the 3.0 Z4 as a Triumph, I think it could be very convincing.

It could even have picnic tables...
