changes to 987 early on can only be a good thing - hopefully early 987 's' models will depreciate a bit more so i can justify one!

I dont get it Nick?
If your saying that people read the write ups, listen to the comments then go and try a particular car then isnt that the way its supposed to be?
Take the Rs4, I would love to try that based on press reveiws, thats all we have untill we drive it or talk to people who have.
In the South East if you are saying that you cant stretch a cars legs then I would of thought you would not be getting the most out of an s2k.

No,

I mean that there is a core of car enthusiasts who buy them because of the driving experience.

The rest know far call about driving (which is why they're so bad at it!) and have bought into the label.

Yes, the sycophancy of the press feeds it.

No, it's possible to drive an S2000 at 10/10ths sometimes and it feels great.

It also feels exciting at 7/10s and a Porsche does not.

Pehaps if you follow some of the surrounding threads about S2000 owners' possible replacements, you will get the discernment thing - many here want a car that excites them personally, not one that they are told to buy by the oracle.

The 987S is a fantastic car and performance wise its without doubt better in virtually every area than the S2000 BUT I do sometimes find that it is TOO good! There are fewer occassions where I get out of the car after a spirited drive thinking "Wow what a great car" than when I had the S2k.

You cannot blame the engineers for the 'image' problem and it seems churlish to criticise them for making it too perfect!

I think it comes down to the impression that the Boxster is a little bit too serious, whereas the Atari S2000 is just a little bit bonkers.

I just can't understand how someone can write off a Boxster S - a very good looking car which has won plaudits the world over for it's fantastic handling, and driving experience, and now has a cracking 295bhp engine as "just a porsche", when they themselves drive a car which can just as easily be written off as "just a f**king Honda" as someone did the other day.
I couldnt agree more.

I lot of city boys or wanker IT contractors kicking about in them, with no clue about what they are sitting in...
Do I detect some IT envy here? I would suggest the IT wankers, being technology buffs, would generally be more informed and interested in technology stuff than gentlemen from other professions, save probrably engineers. So I figure they would own a car more for what it is than what is appears to be.

If your beef is against IT contractors only, well they are contractors because being a permanent IT employee pays crap all. After all, IT isn't a "real" profession is it?

IT Contract Wanker.
