If you're bored at work, you won't have to look far.

Holding together 700nM is never going to be easy. Toerags are ideal for celebs like Fred WDGAF about what it costs to run.
At that low 20's mpg, the 'reg has serious estate sized competition. Like the Cayenne they are a bit ridiculous.

They are cheap for a reason.

It's just that you claimed to already know this - anything high mileage / unloved will eat stuff so i'm wondering what makes the Toerag that much different to anything else in this regard.

When you delve deeper though than it's owners forum, you won't bother buying, unless you have a very good warranty.
Or you have money to burn

As suggested within that forum, the V6 Tdi is the right choice.

I didn't see any out and out horrors in that thread, keeping in mind what you are buying - expecting fixes for issues to cost '20 quid' is idiocracy ..... much like buying an FTO and then getting stung when all the computers go tits up at the same time. I don't think a RRS or an Evoque is any better as a second hand prospect but people are still buying them.

if you want cheap and uncomplicated, buy a Yugo55. It will only cost you 20 quid to buy the whole car. If you want truly fast, buy a bike.

If you wanted cheapish / fastish / and a load carrying thing ... then an AWD V70 Volvo / Forrester S Turbo / Nissan Stagea would be where i'd look, the latter being based on the Skyline is very tuneable.

Any big, heavy powerful car is going to take your bank account for a swim. The consumables alone, tyres, brakes, clutch will be eye watering. Its basic physics.

The A5 doesnt appeal to me. It looks f@#king massive for one.

I was pretty set on the Jag until i further looked into it, its about the same MPG/Tax (slightly more expensive) etc as my old 335d - not good, good car for 11-12k though.

Got to be the V6 3.0 because i love how smooth they are.

SHort of buying outright a 435D (in time) as i want to have cash left for a rainy day. So looking like an A4 quattro 3.0 TDI or A5 quatro 3.0 TDI - i just think the A4's look shite and A5 are generally better spec'd.

I reckon that A5 will be more £ to run than your old E90 mate

They are a good GT type car though

What about an A7?

You can pick them up for less than an A5 if you hunt around

My brother had a 3.0 TDTi and it's very comfortable with all the toys (incl head up!)
