The vx is ancient though, the lotus has moved the game along since with a much better car in every respect. I'd take the toyota engined 111s over any vx. I think the engine in that vx ruins the whole car because it just does not have the balance of the elise. Also every vx I have seen has been debadged what is that about, why are they ashamed to admit they drive a vauxhall.

I used to have a VXT and you'll certainly notice a difference in performance at ALL speeds. It would get up to say 120 quicker than S.

Boot size - VXT boot not far off twice the size of the Elise boot.

Elise 111r is considered the sweeter car though (i've not driven one - yet!)

Cheap to run - no major issues. Turbo lump can lose headgaskets. Vauxhall service pricing. Mpg same/better than S. Insurance cheaper.

Feels more special than an S.

Ride - just as comfy as the S surprisingly.

I would say go for it! If I sell my S for round about 19k i'm considering going back to the VX.

I wouldn't say the difference is like night and day to be honest i've only had the S for 7000 miles but it wasn't that much quicker unless i've got a quick S and that was a slow 111R/Exige?

It was faster in 1st and 2nd definately because of the weight difference but from 3rd gear onwards I didn't think there was that much difference
at all?
1st and second, you're right is where the bulk of the damage is done. But in gear too, so long as it's on cam it is still noticeably faster. I would definitely agree that the fastter you get, the less noticeable the difference becomes. I would put it down to aero performance.

To 120mph there's no contest, but after that the S2K pulls easier and harder to 150.

I don't have any opportunity to drive beyond say 130 these days, so I was happy with that.

Try racing the next one you see in your new car, the performance figures are identical to your "fast as f**k" Porsche.
I'll take you on BB from say 30-130. Obviously I'll lose but I honestly don't expect to lose by more than a car length or so Love the 111R and VXT but I do think they need nearer 240-50bhp to walk an S2000

very true, the dealers were snooty and I guess un-helpfull or useless i'm not quite sure

I gave them 3 weeks to find me a car and I called in at least 4 times over that period as it's on my way home from work, they didn't seem that bothered about selling one?
I found that unless you want a brand new car, or whatever they have in the showroom you are going to be shit out of luck with a Lotus dealer. Mine told me as much, and he says it's purely because they're so rare he simply does not know what he's going to get next and when.

He was quite honest about it to his credit. The day I turned up and bought mine off the street I was in a queue of 3 people!

BB or Kelk, do you have an exhaustive list of differences between the 111R and the S2 Exige?

i'd buy a VXT at a shot if i were in the market for either that or the lotus. much cheaper than the elise, much more tunable as BB says.. wgaf about image? the 2 litre vx unit could be better but it's better than a k series or the NA toyota lump imho

I changed from a VX220 to an S2000 a few years back, I had the VX for a year and the S for nearly 4 and I've just bought another one.

The VX is an excellent car..... for track use, pure driving pleasure but not much else, it's not practical for daily use, for instance I dare not leave mine unattended when I owned one! Ok if attention is what you crave, the S is a little more discreet and offers a very good blend of performance and day to day practicality IMO.
