That being said, the standard 340bhp is plenty and i don't use it that much.
Exactly... and very reliable in standard form. I can see me going this route, plus they are a bit of a bargain now!

Could sell the S2000 and buy a Z4M for less than it would cost me to to buy a MX5 and supercharge or indeed buy a kit for the S2000. That saving could offset the higher running costs. Need to have a think. Or what I really need to do is get the S2000 back on the road and remember how great it is and not want to change it at all. I'm hoping the exhaust mod will make the car sound a bit better (already got a K&N).
Purchase costs are getting low. Running costs are not.

The M tax is quite substantial.

Just be aware that the Duratec engine in the Mk3 isn't proving to be as reliable as the engines fitted to earlier cars. My local friendly garage - who is an MX5 breaker - is seeing a fair few blown engines with comparatively small mileages.

That said, I'd still have one in a heartbeat. ..whilst a folding hardtop adds weight, the practicality is very useful. Not sure how the boot space fairs when the roof is down though.

I've heard something about chocolate bottom-ends. Ford and their relentless cheese-paring, I'd imagine.

Shame.

I believe they're separating links now. Maybe it's not too late.

First I've heard of it to be honest and I've spent a bit of time on the MX5 forums recently. The MK3.5 got stonger internals, with a higher rev limit and are supposed to be the one to go for if supercharging. Got any links to show this, could be a game changer in my plans. Don't like the looks of the first MK3.

Maybe just fit a 2.3 Duratec and supercharge that

No links...just real world knowledge

I'm popping to the garage at the weekend, so will see if there's anything else you need to look out for. Hood drain holes should also be kept clear

SWMBO has a MK 3.5 2.0 Sportech...and I reckon its a sweeter drive than my S2. Now, some of that is because the MX has 3k on the clock and my S2 has 65k but it is so good to drive

IIRC, SuzyBee has a Mk3 (in an interesting colour scheme) - you might want to tap her up for some info.

I suspect this is as much to do with people not changing oil or checking it enough - they just rag it until the service indicator / mileage says it's time to go in and that's the only time it gets checked.

Ahhhhh, keep coming back to the Cosworth MX5 when lying at bed at night

Good article here showing the improvements in real life performance at bottom of the page.. although the torque graph is wrong. The newer kit can come with 25bhp more, so that would help too.

In that article the std car has almost no torque? Power graph looks fine, torque one is f@#ked up less i read it wrong.

I suppose it plots the difference in yellow? Weird approach at odds with the power graph

EDIT keen on th 'go' key. The in gear improvements are huge
