Default DC5

Ok guys and girls after sitting back and watching you enjoy your Honda experiences I'm seriously thinking about joining the Honda brigade.

The S is a little bit too inconvenient for me so I'm looking at a DC5. I have spotted a good one but being stuck on the island I don't have the opportunity to test drive it (without paying stupid money for flights).

The garage I'm looking at buying from is in the West Sussex area and I wonder if one of you kind souls would be good enough to pop into the garage, take it for a spin and let me know what it's like?

Hey!

I'm lucky enough to an S and have access to a DC5 - I guess the garage your talking about is Glen Thorpes - Churches?

Thats where we got ours.

We were pleased with his service and his trade in for our old DC2.

Sounds like you know what you're after, but have you driven a DC5?

I ask because I've driven DC2, DC5, EP3 CTR, older Civic VTi, and now the S2000.

And I put the DC5 a very clear 3rd in that list, behind the DC2 first overall and the S2000 a close second. DC5 doesn't have the 'soul' the DC2 has, nor is it as adjustable and communicative...it no longer 'dances', but drives in a more modern, German way. Also needs smooth tarmac as they come with Jap-spec suspension settings and geometry.

If you've driven one and like it, fair enough. But if you've never driven one I for one don't actually rate it as much better than a CTR, except in looks.

Me too - (bar the vti) I would agree with you 100% -Havoc in the driving pleasure aspect tho. The original itr was and still is a great car for a back roads and twisties alike with a great original raw engine charactiersic that is so hard to emulate in todays modern regulated cars , the DC5 still would IMO out handle it tho but it does lack the feel of the DC2. But like you say over some bumps and it comes pretty unstuck (once again easily resovled tho!) ...

There are hundreds of threads comparing these cars - have a look on the DC2 forum ,
dc5 forum , here and over on HR too!

Depends on the car your after really - DC2's are a bit dated now and few are left that are really mint, S2K's are great (baised view ) and the DC5 is a good choice that has the practicality, handling and modern features of both.

But im a honda nut.

I nearly brought a DC5 from Churchs this time last year. Looking back on it now, I see that what he was selling was well over priced, and not the best example I saw. Thank God I only lost my deposit.

Havoc - Have you ever driven the EK9? There's a guy near me who's got three for sale, and I'm tempted to go over there and have a try.

Nope never driven the DC5, but it looks amazing and has the performance to match.

I'm used to a hard ride currently driving a 2.0 16v megane coupe on coilovers - I might as well have square wheels for all the ride quailty I have at the mo, and anything will have more 'soul' than the piece of French plastic I'm driving at the mo.

I wouldn't say DC5 would out-handle a DC2. It's got a lot more mechanical grip, and a stiffer chassis, so would be quicker through corners, but the DC2 just felt so fluid, so organic...only the VX220 has felt more connected and involving out of the cars I've driven on-road.

IMHO the change to Mac Struts hasn't done the adjustability on the DC5 any favours, and you'll need to budget

Not driven a DC5, but Havoc's comments perfectly match my summations.

It's interesting it has poor feedback, despite the swap to hydraulic assistance.

This trend towards overly stiff, crude suspension is retarded. Interesting how Subaru's struts are far more compliant on bad roads, benefitting ride & handling alike.
