Default De-icing - how do you do it?

I hate wasting time in the morning. I usually fill up a large volvic bottle with luke-warm water, pour it onto the screen with my hand inside the car ready to switch the wiper on to stop the hot water freezing again. Usually takes about 30 seconds to de-ice the whole car.

I can't abide putting newspaper or covers over the screen.

What do you do? Are you one of those sad gits who leaves the car running for 20 minutes and uses a scraper?

Whole can of de-icer for me.

About two minutes.

And people who put newspapers over their windscreens are tossers

I cannot understand people doing this. Nor the dangerous bastards who drive through a housing estate peering through a letter box sized gap in their frosted windscreens.

I always start the car - leave it run for 10-15 mins while I have breakfast, fill the watering can with lukewarm water and pour it over all of the car.

Can of de-icer.
Or set the turbo timer for 10 mins, start the car and go back indoors to finish getting ready for work.

IIRC after you start a car you are meant to drive off straight away, not leave it ticking over for 15 mins.

Another benefit of the turbo timer!

It's totally illegal (unless on drive), but I'm with Bibbs on that.

And fark emissions!

Scraping windows is merely wearing a hair shirt.

To be fair, BB's idea (and they have real frost up there) is probably the most sensible.

Just be careful the runoff doesn't freeze instantly on the deck, so you go arse over tit.

I also just pop out 10 - 15 minutes before, start it up, leave it running, heaters on full, heated seats on, lock with the spare key then have breakfast.

Come out and she is ready to go, defrosted and nice warm seats

i get the butler to do it.

but if its his day off use the side of a credit card and squirt the wash wipers which at this time of year has enough antifreeze in it to work down to minus quite a lot...

takes no time at all
