Dremel
I was given a Dremmel a few years ago and thought at the time it was a silly gimmicky tool.
I have since found no end of jobs to do with it, it really is an excellent thing and I now wouldn't be without one.
Echo previous comments re. good eye protection though - I have had various shards of metal head eye-wards.

I'd echo all the above.
Bought mine years ago to do the 'airbox mod' on my first S2000 (so probably 2002 or 2003), it's had a lot of use since then, cutting everything from stainless steel (long, tough cutting) to GRP (lots of dust) and never missed a beat. I've also used it when restoring furniture as the sanding attachments are useful for getting into awkward places (again, lots of dust).
I do blow it through with the air line after it's had a lot of dust in it, but apart from that, it's never needed maintenance.
