It's just won Autocar driver's car of the year. And I still want one.

Got as far as kicking tyres.

Very reminiscent of 1970s 2+2s, especially the Urraco, albeit ridiculously cramped in the rear for such a huge car.

I think the convertible & S versions will make more sense.

"A brilliant Handling Day car. It's stable, adjustable, quick, forgiving, flattering and feels like it could accept 150 bhp more." Cropley on the Evora.

Saz and I were taken out to lunch by the very personable Steve Cropley the Editor-in-Chief of Autocar and one of the judges of Britain's Best Driver's Car 2009 when we took my S up to Teddington Studios for the Half-Price Heroes photoshoot. We had test driven the Evora less than two weeks previously and enjoyed talking Lotus and the Evora in particular with him. He spoke very highly of it then and I am not surprised that it won.

Totally agree with Nick Graves about the lack of space in the back and the fact that the convertible will be more desirable.

Wondering if Bada or rralston have driven the Evora yet? Would be intersesting to hear their verdicts. It is a very, very clever car but I stick by my comment that it is too refined for my taste.

I've lived with the Elise for over 3yrs as my daily driver, and if there's a more refined Lotus with the same or even slightly less performance I'd have it.

I was offered a test drive in Glasgow the other week but I wasn't able to make it.

I suspect the timing of the supercharged Evora and the replacement of my Elise will not tie in. I'm fed up posting myself in and out of the door each morning like an envelope, and want something comfier and quieter. If I had a garage I'd have a nice cheap VX220 Turbo for weekends, and maybe a 320d as a beater.

I don't though, so I need one car to do everything, and after the Elise, everything is going to be a step down in terms of handling/performance unless I spend a shitload of money.

Well, one of the Elise's problems is that like the S2000, there's nothing to move on to.

oh, hang on...

Actually, there is a new Elise due in 2012. I should imagine they'll have to fix some of the hair shirt issues. With the inevitable loss of character as a downside.

I suspect the answer is just to buy something boring until I have a house with a garage to park an Atom 300 or 2Eleven inside.

Just buy a ground-floor flat with big patio doors!

spot the words in there that get journos moist

I'm with the camp that doesn't want to be flattered or forgiven by a car (neither do I want a deathtrap)

I think you said something before about the car not being involving enough - which would be my reservation

along with spending
