The Mini just made sense. Cheaper insurance, lower tax bracket, servicing every 20,000 miles and more mpg (on cheaper, lower octane fuel). I managed to get a '57 plate with 20k on the clock and a bundle of options for £10k, including a 12 month warranty (which no doubt i'll need seeing as it's not a Honda - the MCS engine does seem to have a few 'glitches').

I'll keep you posted - I may even post some pics when I pick it up!
Sorry you had to leave the fold mate, but please NO MIni pics!! Especially not ones wearing eyelashes (and/or masCARa)

All driving gods are banned from this thread from now on. This is a thread for those mere mortals who have spun their S and had it wander off in directions previously thought impossible, and if you drive the car on days other than summer Sundays in the sun, then you'll probably know what we mean.

Sorry, i have to comment on this. I do not proclaim to be a driving god by any means, but my S2000 was a daily driver for 2 years (30,000 miles) and I drove it in rain snow ice and never lost control or spun it (granted on one snowy occasion had to abandon it). Not because I am a driving god, but because I just took it easy if the conditions did not suit. Basically, if the road appears to be slippery then no VTEC. It is simple and no matter what you drive the same sort of approach should apply.

I do, however, fully sympathize with anyone who struggles in these conditions in a car like this. Although I never had an accident that is not to say that I was not nervous whilst driving in these conditions. I am lucky enough that I now have a daily driver and the S2000 only comes out on nice days for a bit of fun, but I can understand why, if this is not an option, people may choose to replace it as a daily driver.

For a while, until I was able to get a more sensible car, I actually drove a £600 1.2 Corsa around rather than get rid of the S2000 - I would recommend the same approach to anyone else selling should be a last resort if you love it as much as I do.

What about us driving Gods who also enjoy spinning off their S2000s? You're a deiist!

Fancy getting all toysoutyprammy about the sexuality jibes when buying a MINI! Gad got queeried about it too when he bought his too, but saw the funny side.

Good luck with it - just avoid the eyelashes. And the pink balls - it'll only lead to reacharound jokes...

Nezquick, don't listen to the dufus' who are slating your Cooper S. They are decent enough cars.

I'll bet the majority have never been in one, let alone owned one.

Makes me laugh when they call it a girls car when the S is often described as a hairdresser's car.

Both are opinions formed with little knowledge. Good luck to you.

Anyway, after 2 years of owning the 'S', the car I always wanted to own, i think i'm glad to see it go TBH. It never really quite felt like the car I hoped it was going to be and I never thought that it was something that I would be able to drive fast without that niggle in the back of my mind of impending doom.

As for the R56 Mini Cooper S, all I can say is that i'm very, very impressed with it. It feels quick, handles like an absolute dream (it has the optional LSD) and doesn't feel like it's waiting for me to make a mistake should I want to drive it hard into a corner/roundabout. I can also relax in the wet now as well (and the snow when that comes)!

I think it's safe to say that S2000 ownership isn't for everyone, but i'm still glad I took the plunge to find out for myself.
An open and honest view

I see some clowns have marked you post down to -2 (big deal) but thats the sadder 'enthusiasts' on the forum for you

I was having a blat with one recently in the bimmer, it had the 1275mini.co.uk tuning stickers and was seriously rapid.
Not so good on bends as I thought it would be but that may simply have been driver ability.
I'm sure you will enjoy it, after seeing what you can extract from them (with a tune and on the track) its on my list for a wifey commuter toy

Have fun (and yes you are right about the weather - get some winter boots though)

Steve

I'm more driving dog than driving god but I won't be getting rid of my S2k any day soon. And yes - I have ended up in the scenery........ Fortunately no harm done!

I quite the Mini Cooper but I can't ever see me owning one.
