I was unimpressed.

The racing could be made 1000% more interesting if aerodynamic aids were banned completely and the car (and drivers) relied solely upon mechanical grip. It's so obvious, I can only assume it isn't considered as it would restrict the area available for sponsorship on the cars.

For added excitement, perhaps Bernie's suggestion of a hose spraying water on the tracks isn't so ridiculous after all...

As for the show, it would appear the producers of Top-Gear are having some influence; the piece with the boys maneuvering the McLaren truck was so grim I was pleased to be able to fast-forward through it.

You can always say that, and there's pleanty of lesser formula where the racing can be said to be more interesting. But F1 is the pinnacle of the sport, and the technology, and you can't just pretend that aerodynamics don't exist. We could put them all in identical standard 1.1 Mini Metros, and you can bet there'd be more overtaking. But even if people would want to see that, it's not worthy of being called a world championship, or the pinnacle of the sport, and certainly not formula one.

It was nice to see the chemistry between Lewis & Jenson though, but yes we always try and watch with a 'buffer' it comes in really useful when they show the inevitable 'aww look at young Lewis in his go-cart his first dad (before Ron Dennis adopted him) built him using nothing but left over car parts & sweat' and of course for fast forwarding the bits where Eddie Jordans mouth is moving

Love 'The Chain' though, esp' when I hear it on the radio in the car, cracking tune

I am more for a laissez faire approach on the regulations, it seems that copious amounts of regs are not working however if you look back to the golden age of F1, the early 90s/late 80s, the amount of regs were far less and there was far more overtaking. Admittedly there was less aero as well, but if the cars went all out with limited safety regs, not only would the cars be a lot faster but also different teams would have more leverage to do what they want with the car. At the moment, most of the cars are pretty much the same at the front in terms of design. If you opened up the regs to allow for more innovation and bright ideas then this can only be a good thing.

However, it might lead to a certain team winning the championship all the time because they have someone like Adrian Newey!

It is so hard to know what to do. As the pinnacle of motor racing, I think it should be much more anything goes than it is.

For me at least, there's more interesting racing and excitement in 5 nano-seconds of MotoGP than in an entire F1 race. And IMHO that's because mechanical grip, rider skill and, to a lesser extent, power, are the major elements of the package. I wouldn't argue that the technology of F1 is stunning but that's not enough to make it compelling - or indeed, interesting - viewing for me any more.

MotoGP and Formula 1 are very different though. I watch both, enjoy both, but they are very different spectacles and that is a good thing.

Besides, it is always going to be easier to overtake another bike than a car! You can only make a bike so wide, Massa proved pretty effectively this weekend that you can make an F1 car take up the entire track.

BTCC back on itv4 this weekend, of course the racing is closer than open wheelers but much more interesting for me, GP promises so much then doesn't always deliver.
