Hamilton was out of position by about 2" and had just locked up. Minor error, with overly harsh consequences imho. What rosberg did with perez was worse, didn't have such bad consequences for perez.

It wasn't clever driving, slight clip or not. Everyone else seems to manage contact from race to race.

But the rosberg hit was worse, but because it was wheel against side pod it didn't cause any damage.

maybe rosbergs battering of perez contributed to cobbler's crash.

I think Massa has lost a bit of bottle since he had his bump,he has not really threatened Alonso as a team mate, and is always the last of the faster cars, I just think he is so slow, you just knew Lewis was going to visit the pit lane for a drive through, although I do agree he has to stop trying to win the race on the first lap,he seems so much faster than everyone, but is always coming from behind, make you think if he cooled his head what he could do from nearer the front.

don't hold your breath waiting for an explanation from Hamilton

he is an unfortunate mixture of arrogant, immature and not very intelligent

it's possible to do something about the first two (whether it happens during or after his racing career will be interesting) but the last one is something no-one can change

I think if Massa had continued Hamilton would have never got a penalty, for what was a minor mistake. But with Massa limping back to the pits with a puncture and Hamilton able to more or less keep up his normal speed back to the pits, it would have been grossly unfair to have let Hamilton ruin Massa's race with no penalty. Perhaps it's not right to award penalties on that basis, but that's how it is.

I'm a little surprised that the calmer Lewis Hamilton we've seen of late didn't just admit his mistake and publicly apologise to Massa. It's not like there's any question of "racing incident" here; just a silly misjudgement.

That's the thing, should people be punished for the size of their error, or the consequences of said error?
