The Formula 1 Thread - 2011
Its right that F1 is all about getting the car first across the line whatever it takes. I agree McLaren and Ferrari should have been up there with RBR with the expertise and budgets they have. But well done to CG and all the guys at Milton Keynes for a well deserved world championship. Right driver, right car and right strategies. Its not just about one young German.
Whilst its good to be dominant in any sport I really hope the other teams start to catch up next season so we can have a more closely fought season. The closing races last year with 5 drivers all able to take the title was real edge of the seat stuff.

Vettel won this year because he had the best car, not because he was the best driver imo. Sorry but he's barely in my top six.
I guess you could say that Senna had "raw kamikaze pace", and he won a couple of championships. That said, I think you need to be a smart cookie to win championships these days. Raw talent isn't enough anymore. Hamilton's problems is that he's on a run of bad luck. With a bit of luck we'll see this talent in all it's glory next year.
The problem RBR have is that the money will dry up soon enough. McLaren and Ferrari have others fingers in other pies outside F1 which is what keeps them going. They also have big sponsors with deep pockets. Will be interesting to see how many more years RBR can sustain their spending.

Horrible stuff. If you want to talk big-budget but underperforming teams, what about Mercedes? There's really only two manufacturer teams left, all the others are privateers to a greater or lesser extent. I think looking at today there's really nothing between the top three teams anymore, and Suzuka should have been a Red Bull circuit. So let's hope next year starts so even and we don't get one driver running away with it again.
As for Vettel not crashing into people, well that's a lot easier if you start from the front and stay there the whole race.
His biggest strength has undoubtedly been qualifying, something you could also say about a certain Mr Senna.
