The Formula 1 Thread - 2013
I watched the testing in 3D last night. Fell asleep as testing coverage is tedious at the best of times and in the wet more so.
But the 3D was interesting, Some of the shots such as the long one down the start/finish straight with the hill were really quite good. Others didn't seem to have much 3D about them. The close ups in the pit lane were good as you have a lot more depth for the 3D effect to work with.
I wonder what sort of technology they were using, if some of the shots were just 2D, 2D with 3D post processing or real 3D cameras.
Anyone else catch it, it's on Sky3D 2-4:30pm and they're doing the F1 show in 3D.

I've been watching, but I have no 3D, and if I did I don't think I could be bothered with silly glasses anyway. I did wonder if it was some post-process thing, as surely having to have 3D cameras covering the whole track would be a lot of cost and effort for just a test.

Sky have brought 9 3D cameras to the test. No chance of it happening for the races though.

However much or little you can read into the early pre-season times it looks like Mercedes are coming along ok - see here on the beeb. Of course the majors might just be keeping their powder drier but who knows

But at least 2011 was pretty good for the racing through the field, and this year looks closer than ever.
Rumours of a McLaren switch to Honda engines resurfacing. I know it was part of the rumour mill earlier this year but for it to pop up now between testing and the start of the season, I suspect an element of skulduggery and some contract manoeuvring.
From this article it sounds to me like the rumour may have some substance:
