Forza 4 Setup VS Real car Setup - Bit of fun :)
Hello one and all
Just having a play with forza - Real, I put the setup Dixon did on my S2000 on a car ingame (best i can do) and it felt pretty good, Nice and smooth with a stable rear end, Pretty much like i asked dixon for, I did then tweak the gears and toe out a bit more but left it and that and then it got me thinking about doing this.
Also pretty sure i will learn a lot from peoples advice as well so all in good fun please,
Right then,
Forza 4 - Real life setup
What do you do to a track car to make it handle? I say track car as i will stick to the hondas so more a car converted from road to race car, Rather then jump in a Radical or a Aussie V8 ETC
What setup works?
I will start with 3 Cars, Maybe move onto more depending on what happens,
All these 3 are lightweight (Fully Stripped, Can get the weight from in game but i am pretty sure it wont match anything we know) Running big slicks, Adjustable suspension, Rollcage, Big breaks ETC, You get the idea
EK9 Type R - NA Running 192HP, No aero
Integra Type R DC2 - NA Running 226HP, Rear wing removed
S2000 - Supercharged Running 387HP, Big front and rear wing with adjustable settings,
What i can adjust in game (Again weather i can in real life or not i dont know on all fronts)
Tyre Pressures, Gearing (I think this will be more track dependent but if anyone knows the Ratios of the cars i will put them in and see how they match up), Camber, Toe, Front Caster, Anti-roll bars, Springs (in LB/IN if that makes any sense) Ride height, Rebound stiffness, Bump Stiffness, Aero (On the S2000, In LB UP to 100 Front, 200 Rear, Or nothing, Dont have a clue if this is near what you could expect or at what speeds you get full downforce ETC) break balance, break pressure, Differential Acceleration and Deceleration,
Some of these are just % and will mean nothing to you or are not relating to cars at all, I could not say as i dont know enough about setting cars up in real,
I have had a very good play with all 3 cars and got them setup the best i think i can but maybe using real knowledge and some experiance i can make it better, At worse i come out with a lot more knowledge and some great fun,

So lets have a bit of fun, Learn something and maybe even make me a faster racer

I'd say that if you are trying to learn, you currently have way too many variables and an unproven simulator!
For basic geo (assuming the game is accurate) I'd start with a std car and just play with the geo and tyre pressures, then ride height and so on...

it's brakes man, BRAKES!
If it is anything like GT5, then the settings you use in game you take with a pinch of salt IMO, sure the principles are there and you could take the way you setup the car to a track, but I doubt you would be able to run the same settings as there are so many variables that the game cannot emulate.

A good track setup usually makes a poor road setup. If you've driven a Megane R26.R or a proper track car you'll know what I mean. And I believe the Megane is actually pretty tame compared to say MarkB's clio or whatever with respect to that.
this inspired me to have a go on Forza 3 last night.. not played in years...
I got straight in my 2003 S2k with a few engine upgrades and went for a blast... I always knew Forza was pretty difficult using the pad and not a wheel, but the S handles like a pig... very tail happy and slips into oversteer VERY easy... I thought this was just my inability to use the analogue sticks progressively.
I won a few races however and plumped for a 360 Challenge Stradale... that highlighted to me that it was indeed the S2K that was shite and not me. If that is supposed to be a true reflection of how the early cars handle, I'm not surprised so many end up in hedges backwards.
My 09 feels far more planted and progressive than it does on the game.
but then it is just a game...

I have given up trying to emulate 'car x' because it just doesn't work and you'll always be missing the chassis communication.
On Forza3 I sety my S2000 up exactly like it was in real life down to the tyres, the camber, the spring rates blah blah blah.
Admittedly, I was using a joypad, but I loved the way the car worked!
With GT5 and my wheel setup, I focus on general car dynamics and how things work when I push the limits. It is VERY effective too and you can learn a lot, especially with all the aids (including ABS) turned off and using the H pattern box too.
