No, nothing wrong with it, it's just that some people will be expecting a production car for £30k - look at the comments on straight line performance

They do tuning packages that state you can get up to 280bhp, waiting for a reply from their sales guy as to what exactly the upgrade options consist of. but yeah, it is a lot of money but depending what warranty options etc you get might justify it, esp if you are going to be kicking its head in on a track and they cover failures etc.. Will wait and see what they come back with

Looks very nice

I would have concerns over build quality and reliability however...and as others have said, it is slightly underpowered, even when you consider it's light.

It's a Mazda-sources 2.0 Duratec so it's relatively easy to tune up to about 300bhp if you have the money but the factory won't offer that sort of power as it would affect reliability (and price).
Look at the options for tuning a 3rd gen MX5 if you want to see how to uprate the power of a G40.

All this talk of it being underpowered, it has a power to weight of 208bhp/tonne, so it's comparable to a 190 Elise and Exige for a slightly lower list price - what do you expect for your £30k? As indicated above, the factory will sell you one with more POWAHHHH if you have a Clarkson fixation, but a well driven standard G40 will outrun most road cars and many Caterfields on track and you won't get wet on the way home....

I think Ginetta are doing some interesting things at the moment, if I wasn't racing I'd be on the waiting list for a G40 (unless they announce a road going version of the G50/55), Lawrence Tomlinson deserves to do well, he's making the cars people are saying they want at a price people can afford.

Lawrence was staying in the same hotel as us during the Britcar race, so we had a lot of time to talk to him about what Ginetta are doing. He's worked hard to get that business to where it is at the moment and certainly knows how to put the cars together and where to position them in the market.

Doh! I'd forgotten it was a Mazda engine these days - I'm struggling to keep up.

Much happier about that - old prejudices die hard.

There's rather scant technical info, but it looks like a very clever design; easily-changed panels etc as opposed to huge GF tubs.

In fact, it's probably the only true sports coupe in production.

That is a big bonus after getting caught in a thunderstorm!

You are right in that having too much BHP means you get held up, although I would want about 225-230bhp in one of those - just so it has some punch over 100mph.

But yes, a standard guise one with it's 175bhp would be plenty quick compared to your average metal on track.
