he said everything alright sir.i said no i am an idiot and was speeding, sorry.

Never a bad idea kissing tarmac, as a general rule, but see below.

He might not have clocked you for long enough or he might have noticed you slow down so thought at least you were paying attention.

In the former case beware the arsie copper who pulls you and then asks how fast do you think you were going. He may not have a reading but if he can get you to admit to a speed then you're nicked. Answer in those circs is "Sorry, but no doubt you'll tell me."

It's exactly what happened to my Brother on his way to Le Mans last year, couldn't prove his speed but he got a telling off!

Well done, a copper approached in the right way can usually turn things around especially on an open road. Built up area is usually tough to crack.

I am back down to 3 points again now and that is because I just make sure I keep to the speed limit in built up areas - there's just no point in it!

My 3 points came from getting flashed doing 38mph. I thought it was a 40 zone until I saw the camera go off

I admit this isn't as exciting a tale as all your high-speed stories
A lot of those speed limits are illegally reduced!

Check with the ABD for help.

I thought it was anything under 96 mph is at the police officer's descretion, anything above that is court action.

Let's be honest though, the reason the OP only got a warning was because he didn't have a reading or didn't follow you for long enough, if he had clocked your speed then I can guarantee the outcome would have been different and the pleasantries would have disappeared rather quickly.

I got pulled over by an unmarked police car when I was doing about 90 mph and he told me that I won't get done for speeding because he didn't follow me for long enough and he wasn't necessarily pulling me over for my speed but because of my manoeuvre (moving from inside lane on a motorway to outside lane to overtake a car). I thought it best not to point out that he was the reason why I needed to do that because he was sitting in the middle lane and I know exactly what wing mirrors are for and my driving was perfectly safe. Having said that, he seemed like an okay copper.

Some coppers don't mind you "sensibly" exceeding the speed limit as long as you are driving safely, however, there are others who decide to pull alongside you whilst travelling at 78 mph and indicate with their hands for you to slow down.

My assumption was anything thats 30mph over the particular speed limit lands you in court..? A mate got caught at 79mph on the parkway coming into Sheffield in the 50mph zone. I'm sure the copper told him about the 30mph over the limit thing.

i've been done for 70 (real speed 80) in a 40.
out-of-town isolated dual carraigeway (industrial unit's type area).
unmarked cop car and me in a 2.4 vtec accord.

lucky escape on the speeding as i approched him ok and hands-up fair game type situation, thus he only did me for 70.
sent licence off, got it back, and admin error made those points null and void - they put 2001 issue date and not 2005. points expired before i even got me licence back
got about 2years left on my current 3pts though - jumping a red light by a few seconds :/ ahh well!

tbh, i think cops are alot more lenient on how you approchement, and where&where you do it.
their alot more giving if it's middle of the night, with no-one around than they would be if you were doing similar speeds during daytime or rush-hour.
for some reason i would far rather be pulled by a cop than i would a speed cam. probably something along the lines of preference to face-to-face communcation.

They always seem to give the speil about court being just then next 5mph rounded up.

I think it's just you just take the 3points on the chin and not complain but thank them for being "so nice" with a
