We have a local copper who pulls alongside you and indicates for you to slow down - hasn't got me (yet) but a few colleagues on the A15.

My boss said that him doing that instead of pulling him and being an arrogant so and so made him think more about his speed (and the police in general).

I will admit that after I got pulled over by the unmarked police car I did keep my speed down for the next 7-10 days, so a gentle warning did the trick...in the short term anyway.

My daily commute consists mainly of dual-carriageways and motorways and you soon spot which unmarked cars the coppers use. Now they're starting to use more common cars like silver bmws and mercedes and it's a right PITA when every silver merc in your rear-view mirror has the possibility of being an unmarked police car.

Theres a unmarked new 5 Series estate in Sheffield, dark grey if i remember with completely black rear windows and no aerials on the roof.. Even the lights are extremely well hidden and you can only really spot then when they're on.. sneaked barstewards!

I thought it was anything under 96 mph is at the police officer's descretion, anything above that is court action.
FYI: check the ACPO Guidelines (somewhere near the bottom of this)

[CODE]
Limit / Fixed Penalty / Summons
20 mph / 25 mph / 35 mph
30 mph / 35 mph / 50 mph
40 mph / 46 mph / 66 mph
50 mph / 57 mph / 76 mph
60 mph / 68 mph / 86 mph
70 mph / 79 mph / 96 mph

Fixed penalty of
1.

A friend of mine e-mailed me today to say he had been caught at 125 in his Z4 3.0, I think he's had it but he seems to be fairly confident.

Is this a ban? I told him it was, but he is expecting a fine!

I got banned for 106mph on the M6 in 2004. After a letter from my boss explaining the damage my not having a car would do to the business, I was only given a 7 day ban and
