some great comments. Some on the Porsche website too. see below:

I spent 1 day on that forum when I was looking to buy an S2000 - all I can say is that it was an unpleasant environment - and that's from someone used to forum banter.

Some right choppers IMHO.

nice comments in that thread about Porsche owners...

who the F*** wants a s2000

you pays your money I reckon

Cant understand why so many of you slate them. 911s are an icon. I think the 993s are just such an amazing looking car, the 996s look a little bland but the 997s go back to the traditional look of a 911 and according to the write ups that I have read out boxes most of the competition in its weight in both price and performance. (AMV8 & M6).
Try and ignore the ancient cliches and take it for what it is.
BTW they certainly are not bland or uninvolving to drive.

I agree, seems to be a lot of bad feeling towards Porshe's for probably not a great reason. Maybe a touch of jealousy?? I certainly cant afford one but I have a lot of time for all of them (except maybe 944's )

I have also never driven one, and wonder how many people have that slate them. I never believe anything I read in these autoshite magazines - got to remember they have different agenda's and have to write something contraversial most of the time.

Im not sure of the "I wouldnt have a Porshe because of the image" either. It is my reason for not buying an older scoob, but not a Porsche!

PS id seriously love a Cayman....

I don't see much evidence of 'bad feeling'

And there are plenty of people that can afford a Porsche and don't want one - self included

Like I said, it could be the greatest drive ever - but the shape doesn't float my boat

Some people don't like Ferraris and BMWs for the same reason - what's the difference?

It doesn't mask "I really want one, but I'll never admit it"

I remember parking my 348 next to a new 911 turbo last year

There were crowds around the Ferrari and lots ofg questions, while the 911 was ignored (to the chagrin of its owner)

I suppose I want more glamour in my most expensive purchases

Maybe that's why I see the much earlier models as more interesting - they are quite a rare site on the roads now

Are we reading the same thread?

Why do people automatically assume anyone who doesn't like Porsches must be jealous?

Not directly aimed at this thread, but I have seen a few lately.

And its not an assumption that it is jealousy, I dont know what it is hence I put "maybe" But I do always pick up on a lot of negative comments towards Porsches on this and other boards. Cant recall anyone praising a Boxter for example!

Maybe it is more the image aka the reason a lot of people dont like beemers. Not something that puts me off!

You may as well put the name of any manufacturer in that sentence.

"Why do people automatically assume anyone who doesn't like S2000s/Astons/Ibiza TDis/etc. etc. must be jealous? "

Many people who are enthusiastic about the car they bought can't understand why other people don't see them the same way. How many times do we see someone post a link to someone slagging off an S2000 and hear similar comments?

My 2pennorth, I've pretty much found every modern Porsche I've driven to be anodyne. Capable, but anodyne. Not my bag, but I see the appeal.
