Not directly aimed at this thread, but I have seen a few lately.
And its not an assumption that it is jealousy, I dont know what it is hence I put "maybe" But I do always pick up on a lot of negative comments towards Porsches on this and other boards. Cant recall anyone praising a Boxter for example!
Maybe it is more the image aka the reason a lot of people dont like beemers. Not something that puts me off!

the US side of the forum generally seem to be more open to the idea but I suspect thats because Porsche isn't quite as dirty a word as in the UK?The two or three 911s that I've driven didn't do it for me at all so I can't see me buying one...... the old Boxster equally failed to impress as it didn't offer anything that the S2000 didn't already have. When I was looking for a car to replace my S I REALLY didn't know which way to go but then the new 987 Boxster came out...... so to make sure I still didn't like the drive I tested one and was very surprised to find I liked it enough to buy one. If you've driven the 986 and slated it don't discount the 987 until you've tried one as the new car is much better. As well as being a bloody good car its also plenty of fun especially in the wet where you can provoke the tail without much risk of an off.
One small advantage I've found is that if/when the car needs work (service) you can get a decent loan car..... tomorrow mine goes in for a small recall so I've got a Cayman S overnight...... when it goes in for its first service I've been promised a 997S.

I had an FRV.
They probably want to peddle more metal your way. Its a sensible approach in that sector.
Honda should dish out NSXs to all the S owners at service time. Not those sodding shitmobiles they dish out.

I don't see much evidence of 'bad feeling'
And there are plenty of people that can afford a Porsche and don't want one - self included
Like I said, it could be the greatest drive ever - but the shape doesn't float my boat
Some people don't like Ferraris and BMWs for the same reason - what's the difference?
It doesn't mask "I really want one, but I'll never admit it"
I remember parking my 348 next to a new 911 turbo last year
There were crowds around the Ferrari and lots ofg questions, while the 911 was ignored (to the chagrin of its owner)
I suppose I want more glamour in my most expensive purchases
Maybe that's why I see the much earlier models as more interesting - they are quite a rare site on the roads now

There are many 911s and my favourites are 993 and 997. I have driven a 997c2s for a day, a 993c4s for an hour and 996 turbo cab for 1/2 an hour. The 993 and was the first 91 i drove so apart from the fact it felt very quick I could not really comment on it. The 996 Turbo cab was a tiptronic and again couldnt really tell much apart from acceleration. The 997 c2s was in my opinnion just brilliant and I loved every minute of it and for just sheer driving pleasure If I had the money I would buy one tommorow.

May not be bad feeling gad but the posts on the first page a generally made up of negative comments with some quite sweeping generalisations.

Porsche are a brand, like BMW, that attract some polarised views
add Skoda and Ferrari if you like
then factor in that this is a dedicated S2000 board and I think it's inevitable that you'll get a mixed reaction
styling comments are always justified - beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it's easy to spot someone who is just being nasty
most people are stating a reasonable view in that respect as far as I can see
I'm sure people don't like to hear their car described as 'lacking feel' or 'anodyne' either, but I think it's a fair description of most mass produced moderns
of course some people have never driven older cars sans power steering, abs etc, so they may not realise what us grunters are on about
and for some people it may not matter anyway - I bought my BMW for outright pace, versatility and anonymity - not delicacy of feel etc
but I can see how a 911 owner (actual or prospective) is going to be sensitive to such charges - not least when the muppets at EVO tell them that their car offers fantastic steering feel and 'paints a picture of every pebble on the road'

Just re-read the 1st page and about 80% of it is not really that positive is it?!
Comments around stigma, people who cant drive, image, picture of clarkson with "cocks" on his back, snobbish badge, 2 a penny etc.
If it was reasons like, poor quality, ridiculous servicing costs and poor perfomance etc I could accept that
The aesthetics is a perfectly justifiable on though, if you dont like the look of the thing to start with....

Do you have to drive a Nissan Micra Convertible to decide whether it's a car you want to buy?
