Illegally Spaced Number Plates
ANPR not being able to read slightly smaller or differently spaced number plates is BS.

He checked my licence out and then told me that there is a crack down on 'illegal' plates in the run up to the Olympics and his advice was that I should put legal plates on the car at least until after the Olympics.

I would NOT want to be the person picking up some lawn feed from B&Q in a 1.4 Astra LS registration plate J14 ADY
why not just get legal plates?
I love the advice that the police man gave about not breaking the law? what's that all about? Excuse Mr Burglar, you should get out of that house as it's not yours as we are having a crack down on crime with the Olympics coming up. You can keep the TV this time, but we'll probably stop you again if you continue to do it...
we're doomed.
