Leaners ... a dying breed
What happened to all the leaners?
I'm referring to those mostly old boys in Crombie coats and bunnets (that's cloth caps for those down south) in their Rover 75s (or Jags in the case of the posh ones) who drive whilst leaning on the driver's door or window. I had a school friend whose Dad always slouched against the window whilst driving.
You just don't see them around as much these days. I suspect the demise of Rover played a part ...

I think that generation learned it from Hollywood films, where Gregory Peck or whoever would be sawing at a disconnected steering wheel. They needed to lean on the door as there was zero lateral support from the bench seat and a loooong way to slide.
Probably replaced by those people who think it's cool to slouch the other way, with one hand over the top of the wheel making a permanently gay gesture.
Or the yoofs who drive like they're still in bed.
