I like the look of it and I think it has to be judged as an overall package. I hope lotus get it right and at the right price point for what they are offering. If it fails I think it will be because the price places it up against bigger guns.

I suspect that this is only the first version and they'll be plenty of higher power versions to come.

.
There is indeed a faster version planned rumour has it.

I'm not being a Lotus fanboy but it seems a little odd to write something off based on it's bhp number. 280 bhp from a 3.5 V6 feels conservative too.

That's a bit of US-style using top-trumps big numbers as knowledge substitutes. It's something the septics continually do.

Acura get over 310 BHP from their antiquated SOHC V6, so the ex-Lexus lump should have decent delivery. So yes, there may ba an Evora S to come.

This is actually the first of Lotus' next-generation chassis, that will spawn a new Elise, Exige, V8 (and probably a 4x4 if they're as cynical as the rest) and a 2+2 for former Lotus enjoyers who've sprogged out and need some enjoyment again seems like a place to start.

Was chatting to my Lotas man earlier, sounds like there is a supercharged one planned for about a year after, as per the Elise SC and Exige S.

I think it looks great and if the figures they're quoting on PH are realistic it sounds plenty quick enough to me.

There's bound to be a new variant every other week with 0.5 bhp more than the last one and a disproportionate increase in price but it seems to work for them and their customers so why not.

It's about time we had a special edition though, I read about this at lunchtime, it's nearly 9.30pm and nothing yet, what's going on?

Good luck to them I say

That would be good.

Just so long as they dont descend further into more of this '...and here's a green one with a yellow stipe limited edition' nonsense.

I like it!

There isn't a great deal of choice available for sporty 2+2s. (ideal if you have 2 small kids)

A blower on this would be very nice.

But it's not quick enough. It's needs to be 300bhp minimum to get into that market. It's sub boxster level. It's only going to be marginally quicker than an S at that spec.
I'll put money on the possibility that the first car with 280bhp will be the Evora S, and a tuned R version won't be far away. Lotus have done it with the Elise and Exige, so it'd be very silly to thnk that they'd let the first 210bhp/ton car be the range topper.

It's pitched against the Cayman S which has some real issues for people in the looks department (the rear-end mostly), general lack of excitement in terms of styling, and the fact it's always going to be deliberately throttled down so as not to upset 911 buyers.

The Evora has a better power/weight, will no doubt handle very well indeed, looks like not much else in its sector, and has a genuinely exciting interior. I think they are on to a winner, unlike the Europa mess they rushed out to use up all the VX220 bits.

The Lotus range is now being created from scratch to provide two lightweight sports cars (essentially a convertible or a more focussed hard top version), a stripped out track car, a handsome mid-range coupe, and a supercar not before long in the form of the new Esprit.

They appear to have thought long and hard about it and it's looking very bright for them IMO. Particularly if they get an R version of the Evora with maybe another 50-70bhp or so (supercharged, following the precident set in the Elise/Exige?). I'd buy one if they did, because something with the same sort of handling as my Elise with more comfort/luxury/power would be ideal.

I think it looks fantastic (assuming these pics load):
